The STREAMLINE format started as a MSc dissertation project by Aster de Vries Lentsch, drawing on an earlier online crowdsourcing tool developed by the VOLANTE project*.

After graduating she continued to develop and implement the format with Dr. Marc J. Metzger at the University of Edinburgh, under the auspices of the OPERAs project*.

In Summer 2018, STREAMLINE Research was launched as an independent spin-off company.
